Rumors Aren’t Facts: A Few Things I Need to Say

Why context, evidence and critical thinking still matter.

With everything that has happened since the documentary and the allegations surrounding Jared Leto, there are a few things I really need to get off my chest.

First of all, rumors, gossip, hearsay and selectively presented material are not automatically the same thing as established facts or evidence.

A rumor doesn’t become evidence simply because it has been repeated for 10, 15 or 20 years. The fact that a story has circulated for a long time only tells us that the story has circulated for a long time. Stories can be repeated, embellished, misunderstood and changed every time they are passed from one person to another. And that distinction matters......
